EATING FOR HEALTH
If food medicine is what you need, Natalie can help find solutions that work for you.
Natalie is a dedicated foodie with a passion for healthy eating; in food medicine these two passions come together enabling Natalie to help you learn to support and heal your body through the food you eat.
Enjoying your food is an essential component, and Nat loves to provide recipes, shopping and cooking ideas that are right for you and your loved ones.
Food is one of our basic needs and in today’s modern world with time being of the essence for many of us that fast snack or tantalising processed ‘food’ bite will often seem to suffice to get us through. The trouble with these types of foods, not to mention rushed eating habits, is that they generally have very low if any real nutritional value, and are often doing more harm than good to our bodies when we look at the big picture.
Having lectured for over ten years in food as medicine, Natalie has a broad knowledge of diets/food fads and the rapidly shifting landscape of chemical facts related to food. This knowledge is rooted in bringing wholeness back into our lives – the whole grain; the fermented tea or dairy or sauerkraut; the organic grass fed as nature intended beast; the cold pressed extra virgin oil used for the right purpose; butter instead of poisonous margarine….
These types of foods – real foods – are foods that actually nourish, heal and support your body to do what it is supposed to do – support you. And we can take this even further, in addition to providing deep nourishment there is the gift of a great recipe-pleasure to our palate, and even nourishment for our soul.
Food Medicine doesn’t stop there either – finding great foods is a great beginning, and from there we look to the perfect combination according to your clinical presentation. This is actually quite simple – if one lacks yang/warming energy…..warm them up with cinnamon and ginger and appropriate yang tonics….if one is lacking yin/cooling energy cool them down with cucumber and barley and lemon spritzers. This is the beauty of Oriental medicine – it takes us back to thermodynamic principals and works with our metabolism to correct imbalances in yin and yang. If food, as Hippocrates said, is medicine, then knowing and applying recipes handed down from our ancestors is fundamental to our well being and survival. Methods of preparation and most importantly, seasonal variation and prescription according to our climate are as significant as the ingredients themselves.
SUPPLEMENTING
Nutritional supplements are essential in today’s modern world where agriculture and mechanisation have stripped most of our food sources of any real form of nutritional value.
One hundred years ago, a grain of wheat was value packed with nutrients and protein(30%). Today-thanks to the fast paced structure and control behind industry, that one grain has been reduced to just 7% protein.
Most of us have experienced some form of digestive symptom….for example the simple passing of a stool upon greeting the morning’s sunrise has become a challenge for most. Poo is a powerful illustrator of this modern day world, for without that passing of a good poo every day, life becomes constipated and ceases to flow freely in many other aspects.
Chemicals have provided the mechanism for agriculture to meet our exponential human population explosion….and these chemicals are omnipresent in our environment, no matter how safe and organic we live.
So it is essential to provide a means to extract these environmental toxins from our bodies safely via good quality supplements.
Many fantastic forms of high density nutrients can be provided simply from weeds and methods such as fermenting your own kefir – Natalie has a vast knowledge base of the ‘how to’ cook/combine/eat foods as nutritional gifts.
If it cannot be met with food, then high quality supplements may be implemented in a personalised and supervised way, to ensure you are taking what you need, when you need it.
